We have less than a month until the Federal Trade Commission’s Safeguards Rule takes effect—are you prepared?
ACA International has many resources to help you get there.
Come Dec. 9, 2022, the FTC is requiring compliance with changes to the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLBA), which address the security of consumers’ financial information.
This includes debt collectors, and ACA has you covered through new compliance tools available on the online Safeguards Rule Resource Center.
“This rule, which introduces the biggest changes in its requirements in almost 20 years, expects covered companies to implement a comprehensive information security program,” said ACA CEO Scott Purcell. “There is a lot of benefit in this rule, but a lot of upfront costs and changes—and ACA is on point with practical and relevant guidance for its members.”
Read the text of the amended rule as well as articles breaking down compliance with it, listen to related recordings of ACA’s members-only ACA Huddle and access new education offerings.
“We are in the home stretch for compliance, and ACA has the tools its members need to assess and update your programs through business guides, an Alliance ACA partner to help with consulting and/or ongoing security management needs, communities to share insights, as well as newly designed education courses,” Purcell said. “All of these tools are now available on our Safeguards Rule Resource Center.”
Safeguards Rule Webinar Series
ACA has partnered with TPx Communications, a member of our Alliance ACA program, on an education series for the Safeguards Rule. This new webinar series will run throughout October and into November to help members prepare for the December 2022 deadline.
The ACA How: Safeguards Rule Implementation series starts out with two free Hot Topic webinars for members.
On Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. CDT, join us for Safeguards Rule What? In this webinar, TPx and ACA will break down the Safeguards Rule into simple terms and explain what an organization needs to do and by when.
Then on Thursday, Oct. 6 at 2 p.m. CDT, join us for Owning Your Security Program. In this webinar, TPx will cover how to create a security program that is compliant with the GLBA Safeguards Rule and will detail the specific requirements as well as how to govern it.
To continue learning about the Safeguards Rule, ACA is offering members the opportunity to purchase access to the full series, including interactive Q&A sessions where you can get answers from experts on your specific data security questions.
These 15 additional sessions are free for Training Zone subscribers. If you are not a Training Zone subscriber, the series can be purchased here.
The sooner you register for the series, the more you will get out of it. While most of the webinars will be recorded, the nine Q&A sessions will not be recorded. So register now for more opportunities to consult with experienced data security professionals and get your questions answered!
You will find the full lineup of the Safeguards Rule webinar series, including information on how to register, right here.
Advocacy for You
The Safeguards Rule Resource Center also features updates on ACA’s advocacy related to the rule. Most recently, ACA and other industry trade groups requested a compliance deadline extension from Dec. 9, 2022, to Dec. 9, 2023.
Because this extension has not yet been granted, members should focus on compliance steps to be ready for the 2022 compliance deadline.
