Members from Malone Frost Martin PLLC have established a scholarship in memory of Robbie Malone, a former ACA member active in the Members Attorney Program and Judicial Committee since its inception. Malone died in 2021.
“Robbie was a great business partner and close personal friend. She made her mark on this industry as a tough-nosed litigator who would not back down from any fight,” said Mike Frost, partner at Malone Frost Martin PLLC, who initiated the scholarship. “Robbie was a zealous advocate of this industry and for all of her clients. She wanted to leave her mark on this industry, and we felt that this annual scholarship award was a great way to do just that as Robbie was also a great teacher and mentor—one who would never ask anyone to do anything that she was not willing to do herself.”
The $2,500 scholarship will be awarded to one recipient annually starting this year at ACA’s 2022 Convention & Expo in conjunction with the ACA International Education Foundation (ACAEF) Loomer-Mortenson Scholarship Program. The ACAEF will choose one of the Loomer-Mortenson applicants to receive the scholarship in honor of Malone.
Malone Frost Martin has committed to funding the scholarship for 10 years in Malone’s memory.
To be eligible for application to the ACAEF Robbie Malone Scholarship, an applicant must be a current employee or child of an employee at a company affiliated with the credit and collection industry.
Additionally, the applicant must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours at an accredited college, university, vocational-technical college or community college within 12 months following receipt of the award.
Winners will be selected based on their cumulative grade-point average, their official grade transcript, and a written submission of a two- to three-page essay on the value of consumer credit to our nation’s economy. This may be either a creative story or persuasive essay.
Applicants who indicate they are studying law or a related field will be given special consideration for this scholarship.
“We would encourage any ACA member or their family who is a straight-shooter and hard worker to apply and follow their dreams,” Frost said.
Malone, of Plano, Texas, started her legal career as a prosecutor for Brazos County in Texas and an assistant attorney general for the State of Texas before moving into private practice. She was the founding managing partner of Malone Frost Martin PLLC in Dallas and spent the last 35 years as a trial attorney.
Malone received ACA’s Scholar Designation in August 2014 and the Jonathan Elliot Judicial Advocacy Award in July 2019, which recognizes an ACA member who has been an outstanding advocate on behalf of the accounts receivable management industry.
