Be a part of legislative and regulatory advocacy in ACA International’s online conference June 3.
5/18/2020 14:30
As ACA International continues to work with Congress by reminding legislators of the accounts receivable management (ARM) industry’s important role helping consumers, now is an important time for members to join in that effort.
There is no better opportunity to learn about ACA’s advocacy efforts and how members can help than the Washington Insights Livestream conference June 3.
Modified from our original conference held in-person on Capitol Hill, the reimagined event will provide the opportunity for more members to join and learn about the advocacy across the miles.
Members will hear from Washington insiders on ACA’s staff and those working with legislators and regulators on Capitol Hill and about the latest updates on legislation, especially bills in response to COVID-19 that impact the industry.
ACA continues to advocate for ARM industry consideration in legislation such as the Health and Economic Recovery Omnibus Emergency Solutions Act (HEROES) Act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives May 15 and ongoing packages proposed as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act (CARES Act).
In a 208-199 vote on May 15, the House passed the $3 trillion HEROES Act, which includes some provisions that will have a significant impact on the ARM industry. ACA’s advocacy continues to educate Congress about troublesome provisions in the bill. The U.S. Senate is not expected to take up the full package from the House, and there will continue to be opportunities for Congress to remove the problematic provisions as it moves through both chambers.
Over broad legislative efforts in response to COVID-19 at the state and federal level have harmed the ability to communicate with consumers and some instances have nearly halted operations. Joining our livestream conference will show lawmakers and regulators the power in numbers and while we can’t meet with them on Capitol Hill this year, members’ attendance will build on the efforts of ACA staff continuing to work on our advocacy mission and making the industry’s voice heard.
Register now to join the online conference featuring the following sessions:
- COVID-19 Administration, Legislative and Regulatory Efforts Impacting the Debt Collection Industry
- The 2020 Election Update
- Fighting back Against Flawed Medical Debt Legislation at the State and Federal Level
- FCC Rulemakings in 2020 in the Wake of the TRACED Act
- CFPB Outlook for the Remainder of 2020

In addition to COVID response legislation packages, there are over a dozen debt collection related bills on Capitol Hill, and the Federal Communications Commission is addressing key issues about the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, SHAKEN/STIR and call blocking and labeling. Hear and participate in panels on these subjects during the livestream and find out how you can continue to help ACA advocate with lawmakers and regulators.
Members may also find more updates on advocacy efforts on ACA’s federal advocacy webpage.
The online event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Central Standard Time June 3.
