The Federal Trade Commission reports that Americans have been scammed out of $68 million due to fake business and job opportunities. Now, a recent wave of scams targeting unsuspecting job seekers has hit the accounts receivable management industry.
A member company told ACA International that it has heard from a number of people who say they’ve received unsolicited email job offers supposedly sent by the member company.
Apparently, scammers send these emails in an attempt to trick people into providing private information, like their Social Security numbers or date of birth.
If your company finds out it has been victim of such a scam, you may want to post a message about the fraudulent job offer on your website and alert your HR team.

ACA was part of a coalition of more than 200 trade associations and professional organizations that supported a recently finalized rule from the FTC on business impersonation scams, ACA previously reported. These scams ranged from the sale of false discounted badges for association events to fraudulent websites offering hotel bookings for the events.
The FTC saw a sharp increase in these scams at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic and more than 2.5 million in total from 2017 through the middle of 2022. Government and business impersonation scam reports to the FTC also increased in 2023, according to an FTC news release.
