ACA International President Jack W. Brown III recently addressed an international audience about the association’s efforts to engage with U.S. regulators on call blocking and labeling technologies, as well as the real world impact the current interpretation of Telephone Consumer Protection Act has on the industry. Brown was among several high-ranking industry professionals invited to participate in the GCS Credit Community World Conference in Strasbourg, France.
The well-attended event was held in conjunction with the Federation of European National Collection Associations’ (FENCA) 25th Anniversary 2018 Congress. Highlights included informative discussion panels, presentations and workshops featuring world-renowned leaders spanning regulators, think tanks, academia and business.
Brown, who spoke during the data securitng presentation, said "there was a general consensus that it would be beneficial for the group to work together to develop a standard data protection policy that we could advocate for.”
Noting that ACA has an opportunity to expand its international footprint and membership, Brown reported that he met with participants from Bahrain, Brazil, Norway, China and Africa, and was reminded that ACA International is recognized as a global leader and strong provider of educational resources. The event shows that there are more opportunities for outreach with international members to include discussions about international collections at association events, according to Brown.
Meanwhile, Adam Wood, of the Global Collection Association and CEO of GCS Credit in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, also hosted a roundtable discussion with representatives from international industry trade associations including Erwin Faulkner president of FENCA; Benedict Wong chairman of the certification, complaint and compliance committee with the Hong Kong Credit and Collection Management Association, an ACA International member of the year award winner in 2000; Phillip King, chief executive of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management; Sam Omukoko from Kenya; Nick Pilavidis CEO of the Australian Institute of Credit Management; Bill Mann, IFCCE, president of the International Association of Commercial Collectors; Donald Maurice legal consultant for the Receivables Management Association, and Mark Dobosz, executive of the National Creditors Bar Association.
