ACA International’s staff recognized outgoing CEO Mark Neeb during its holiday party Dec. 15 at the Minnesota Vikings Museum, attended by incoming CEO Scott Purcell and ACA President Kevin Baich.
Neeb was honored by longtime colleague and friend Ted Smith, ACA’s vice president and COO.
“It’s been a privilege and honor to work with you,” Smith said during the event.
Neeb started as ACA’s CEO Feb. 12, 2018. Before that, he was president and CEO of neebEDU, a debt recovery company he founded in 2014, that served the student loan market, and president and CEO of The Affiliated Group, a nationally licensed receivables management firm.
Jessica Hartmann, ACA’s vice president of member experience, presented Neeb with a framed cover of his profile in Collector magazine in May 2018, which you can read here.
Neeb said getting to know ACA’s staff and members is the greatest reward from his time as CEO. “That’s been the most gratifying thing of my lifetime,” he said.
That said, he won’t be straying far from the industry after his retirement from ACA Dec. 31.
“I’m looking forward to another chapter,” Neeb said.
He will be working part-time to build a sales team with ACA affiliate member company Freede.
“Over the course of many years, our industry has learned that working with consumers in ways that are convenient and impactful for them brings about great success for consumers, creditors and collection agencies,” Neeb said. “Freede helps consumers take back control of their finances while relieving agencies and creditors of much of the work involved in recovering delinquent debts.”
Purcell will start as ACA’s CEO on Jan. 1. He previously served as president of Professional Credit in Springfield, Oregon and also served as ACA’s 2020/21 president.
“Scott will do a fine job leading our association,” Neeb said. “His industry experience, knowledge of how ACA’s leadership and governance works and financial acumen will be a huge benefit to all members. His compassion and even-handed approach when it comes to balancing the needs of our businesses with those of consumers will be an added advantage in our advocacy efforts in Washington, D.C., and across the country. Also, in my opinion we have the finest staff at ACA in our history and I’m sure great things will follow. As for me, I want to express my appreciation for the opportunity to be ACA’s CEO over the past four years and look forward to seeing how our association flourishes.”
