Members of the Washington Collectors Association hit the ground running with advocacy during the U.S. House of Representatives’ district work period by meeting with U.S. Rep. Adam Smith, D-Wash., July 30.
Led by Kelsi Hamilton, CCCO, unit legislative committee chair for the Washington Collectors Association, the group discussed legislation on illegal robocalls and its impact on the accounts receivable management industry as Congress continues to debate the issue. They also discussed call blocking and labeling measures by the Federal Communications Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s proposed debt collection rulemaking.
“We really encourage everyone to connect with their congressional leaders while they’re on recess,” Hamilton said. “If we all do this it makes a huge difference! Congressman Smith was very receptive.”
August marks district work periods for members of Congress, making now a great time to connect with your local representatives or join town hall meetings and community events. ACA has resources available on its Advocacy Resource Center including an association fact sheet, research and an advocacy booklet.
