Members of the Federal Communications Commission will testify before the House Subcommittee on Communications and Technology at 10:30 a.m. EDT March 31.
In addition to testimony from the FCC, often focused on recent accomplishments and priorities for the year, the hearing, Connecting America: Oversight of the FCC, will include questions from the committee members to the FCC panel.
The FCC includes Chair Jessica Rosenworcel and commissioners Nathan Simington, Brendan Carr and Geoffrey Starks.
Votes on the confirmation of the fifth member of the FCC, Gigi Sohn, have been delayed due to tie votes along party lines at the committee level in the Senate, among other issues, ACA International previously reported.
Some of the FCC’s initiatives under Rosenworcel’s leadership include policymaking on unlawful robocalls and Caller ID spoofing, preventing “digital discrimination” and providing access to telehealth and connected care services, among others.
ACA continues to advocate with the FCC to follow standard procedure before moving forward with a Declaratory Ruling and Order that, if adopted, would require callers to obtain consent before using ringless voicemail technology to contact consumers and classify ringless voicemails as calls under the Telephone Consumer Protection Act, ACA previously reported.
ACA has also supported efforts to develop a concise reassigned numbers database, urging the FCC to ensure it is reasonably priced, accurate and easy to use and includes a safe harbor, ACA previously reported. The FCC recently announced changes to subscriber options and pricing for the Reassigned Numbers Database. The changes, which will go into effect April 27, 2022, add more subscription tiers, agent discounts and pricing options, ACA previously reported.
