Members of Congress have two long recesses coming up in July and August and Democrat senators are saying the break scheduled in August should be canceled due to a delay in process on their legislative agenda, The Hill reports.
Infrastructure discussions have dominated congressional time and, according to The Hill, Senate Democrats have only started their reconciliation bill package, which typically includes legislation that Republicans do not support.
The Senate is scheduled for a two-week recess starting June 25 and then will be in session until Aug. 6. After that, their recess is scheduled through Sept. 13, according to The Hill.
Senators are calling on Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., to revise the schedule.
“I’m in favor of working right through [the August recess],” U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., a member of the Senate Budget Committee, said in the article.
The U.S. House of Representatives also has a recess scheduled for August.
Members of Congress are typically in their home districts and available for meetings during a recess, making it a good time for members to connect with their legislators.
