After a hiatus of several years, the ACA International Asset Buyers Committee is back in action and ready to contribute to ACA’s advocacy and education goals.
Under the leadership of chair David Paris, managing director of Heritage Global Capital LLC., the committee had its first official meeting on Sept. 2 with seven of eight members present. Also attending were three staff liaison individuals from ACA: Angela Czerlanis, learning and development specialist, Betsy Clarke, compliance analyst, and Jessica Hartmann, vice president of member experience.
The group is moving forward with several initiatives that will support ACA members who work on the asset buyer side of the industry.
One of committee’s most urgent initiatives relates to the final debt collection rule expected to be released by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau sometime this fall.
When the rule changes drop, the committee will provide comments and guidance to asset buyers. Focusing on this issue are Jack Brown III, president of Gulf Coast Collection Bureau Inc., Janice Boyd, owner and president of JMB Call Centers, and Paris. Recognizing information security requirements are an ever-evolving field of key importance for small and large companies, committee members Ernie Austin, vice president of acquisitions at CKS Financial, and Paris will develop best practices for members on how to manage information security risks. Issues involving chain of title are also of relevance to asset buyers, and Chris Jenkins, vice president of sales at National Loan Exchange Inc. will prepare guidance on this subject. Increasing knowledge and effective navigation of licensing issues will be addressed by Missy Massey, director of business development at National Credit Adjusters LLC, and Charles Natkins, general counsel at Collins & Hilton Asset Group LLC.
