A Swan Song -- "Crazy" Stuff I've Learned That Enhances Agency Revenue
10:00 AM - 11:00 AM
[Revenue Session]
I'm retiring at the end of 2023. I'm not a collector. I don't own an agency. Instead, I'm an "insider-outsider" defense attorney in our Industry. Before my legal career, I was trained as a scientist and loved to conduct experiments while working with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. Our industry is also ripe for conducting experiments -- experiments designed to enhance revenue. After several decades in our Industry, and from a "let's try something different and see what happens" experimental design approach, the evidence is in. Our Industry really does have the ability to dramatically increase revenue by utilizing and empowering existing staff (through increased productivity, curiosity, and empathy) while at the same time, lessening the risk of consumer complaints and perhaps, most important, instilling an "I did something good today" attitude in your front-line staff. So, as I'm just weeks from retirement, let's visit about how to experiment within your agency so as to increase employee satisfaction through better and more effective consumer interactions. The end result of which is the collateral benefit of an improved bottom line and an enhanced recovery rate for your creditor clients.
Learning Objectives:
1. Learn how "right party contact" and "we must demand balance in full" protocols drastically reduce recoveries.
2. Learn how asking consumers to do the impossible dooms collections.
3. Learn how discounts plus payment plans enhance your bottom line.
4. Learn how a sincere "help desk" attitude results in more payments and thank yous.
5. Learn how these tips avoid the dreaded "block caller" function on cell phones.

As Generative AI systems continue to refine their capabilities, they possess the potential to yield extraordinary outcomes. Yet, it's essential to acknowledge that they may also produce incorrect or misleading outputs, which could potentially cast a shadow on a company's compliance management framework.

Old vs. New - May the Best Tech Win
3:00 PM - 4:00 PM
[Revenue Session]
Sales people love throwing around terms that get you excited about new technology and all the positive impacts it will have on your business. However, what does it all really mean to your bottom line and are they just hyping the latest and greatest up? On the flip side, perhaps new software solutions can actually drive better operations and open the doors to new automation?
In this session we will explore common beliefs about "old tech" and what it really means in the broad landscape of revenue generation. With a team of highly skilled, thick skinned and somewhat personable experts from our industry, we will have a fun filled panel discussion that strips down the facts and addresses the following key questions you should be asking:
- What specific technology impacts your ability to automate process and increase revenue?
- What agencies should focus on when deciding if new fangled technology gadgets will actually positively impact your business or if they are just added noise.
- Why older proven technology might continue to be the right fit or why its time to throw the baby out with the bathwater and start fresh all together?
- The negative spin companies generally put on older platforms and if it is actually warranted or not.
Learning Objective:
1. Walk away with a better understanding of New vs. Old technology.
2. Understand what is meant by common terms thrown around in the industry regarding software design.

Updated August 1, 2023
A safe and comfortable experience at ACA International’s (“ACA”) 2023 Annual Convention & Expo (“Event”) is a top priority for ACA as we plan for your arrival in Chicago. The venue we are using is the Radisson Blu Aqua Chicago (“Hotel”). We have prepared these COVID-19 Safety Protocols with the health, safety and enjoyment of attendees in mind.
These safety protocols are based on local, state and federal recommendations and mandates. However, given the evolving nature of the pandemic and changing local, state and national guidelines and requirements, safety protocols will naturally be fluid. ACA reserves the right to modify or update these safety protocols at any time so that they are appropriately tailored to the state of the COVID-19 pandemic, its attendant health and safety risks, and national, state, and local requirements and guidelines, during the dates of the event.
Please check back periodically so you are aware of the safety protocols you will be expected to follow while attending the event.
By registering for and/or attending the Event, you and anyone travelling with you agree to follow the safety protocols set in place by ACA, the Hotel, the City of Chicago, State of Illinois and the CDC, including those stated herein and onsite at the event. ACA and Hotel reserve the right to ask any attendee or guest to leave the event and/or Hotel premises at any time in the event of a suspected COVID-19 infection, exposure or symptoms.
ONSITE
Masks
- Mask protocol will follow local, State of Illinois and CDC guidance.
- Please bring your own masks if you elect to wear one. ACA will have disposable masks available if you need them.
Self-Screening and Personal Accountability Commitment
Attendees’ commitment to act responsibly with respect to their own health and the health of others at the Event will be critical to the success of the Event. In that regard, ACA expects all attendees and their guests to conduct daily self-screenings and to self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms. Please review the CDC list of symptoms and CDC Quarantine & Isolation protocols before attending the Event.
If you are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms or test positive for COVID-19, or are exposed to someone who has COVID-19 symptoms or tested positive for COVID-19, during the Event, we ask that you please promptly notify an ACA staff member and excuse yourself from event activities. You may want to reference the CDC Coronavirus Self Checker at that time to obtain the CDC’s guidelines on staying away from others, testing and medical attention. ACA and Venues staff will work with you to determine whether and when it may be appropriate for you to return to event activities.
