The Washington State Collection Agency Board is currently accepting applications for a general public member to join the board. Members of the public may apply for a board or commission at any time, regardless of whether there is a current or upcoming vacancy, as vacancies occur periodically throughout the year.
The board plays a vital role in overseeing the collection industry, safeguarding consumer rights and promoting ethical practices. Members include a diverse range of individuals dedicated to upholding the highest standards in the field.
The five-person board consists of:
- The chair, appointed by the director of the Department of Licensing.
- Four members, appointed by the governor, including:
- Two licensees, who fall into one of two categories:
- Collection agency owners or executive employees and have been so for 5 years or longer.
- Individuals who are actively engaged in the collection agency business for the length of their term.
- Two general public members.

As a general public member, you will serve a four-year term, joining a team committed to meeting at least twice a year. These meetings provide a platform for discussing industry developments, addressing regulatory issues, and fostering collaboration among board members and administrative staff.
Board members receive compensation for their time and are reimbursed for any board-related travel expenses in accordance with state law. Beyond financial incentives, serving on the board allows you to make a meaningful impact on your community, shaping policies that directly affect consumers and businesses alike.
