Well-known and longtime association leader Ted Smith, CAE, was promoted to vice president and COO by ACA International CEO Mark Neeb in October.
“Ted has served ACA and its members in several different capacities over the years and, since returning two years ago, has done an outstanding job leading the for-profit side of ACA as well as overseeing all operations,” Neeb said. “I couldn’t be prouder of the professionalism and competence Ted has shown ACA’s staff and members.”
Smith has a long tenure with ACA.
He joined the association in 1984, as part of ACA’s public affairs team, working with Debra Ciskey, IFCCE, an ACA staff member at the time who currently serves as executive vice president of CACi in St. Louis. Later,Smith moved into leadership roles with ACA’s industry management, government services, check services and health care divisions.
Through his work with the health care division, its spring meeting grew to be the second-largest industry event.
Smith was instrumental in working with a member task force to develop the Professional Practices Management System, now the Blueprint Quality Management System.
He also worked through the International Credit Association’s merger with ACA, leading to an increase in the membership of the existing Creditors International Division. Smith also worked through the American Asset Buyers Association merger with ACA, which led to the creation of the Asset Buyers Division.
He served as executive director of the International Association of Commercial Collectors; managed the ACA International Education Foundation; was executive director of ACA Enterprises and served for four years as chief operating officer.
In 2017/2018, Smith was the deputy director of Unclaimed Property Professionals Organization and in spring 2018, Smith returned to ACA as vice president of operations.
“I am excited to build on my career at ACA and working with colleagues and members across the U.S. and internationally,” Smith said. “We know it’s been a challenging year for our members, and I am pleased to be part of the team to work with them and appreciate their continued partnership with ACA as we move forward.”
