After 50 years at its hub in Edina, Minnesota, a popular area for retail and housing development in the Twin Cities, ACA International is on the move to a new headquarters building in Eagan, just south of St. Paul.
ACA is starting the process to move in December after negotiations prompted by the development near the 4040 W. 70th St. location.
In recent years, the land around ACA’s Edina headquarters has become increasingly popular for development. ACA was approached by multiple developers with bids for the land and building. After many negotiations, the ACA Enterprises Inc. Board of Directors accepted an offer and ACA’s office building was sold, just as the COVID-19 pandemic hit in the U.S.
In October, ACA purchased an office building in Eagan and started the process to pack up decades of history and move to the exciting new space for our Minnesota team.
“These discussions have been going on for a long time with the goal to find a location that best fit the ACA team while being mindful of the importance of finding the right buyer of our Edina headquarters,” said ACA CEO Mark Neeb. “We were approached about selling the building on multiple occasions and we eventually achieved a win-win outcome for ACA members and staff.”
The timing of the sale and this new opportunity during the COVID-19 pandemic was a challenge, Neeb said, but “we’re working through it, just like our members.”
“We pivoted to working offsite instead of planning the move to Eagan as soon as we would have liked, but when the time comes we’re looking forward to establishing it as ACA’s next home,” he said.
The Eagan building is being retrofitted for ACA’s office space needs, including both personal and collaborative workspaces.
It will be some time before the entire ACA team is working out of the Eagan location, but its layout is under development with COVID-19 safety protocols as part of the process.
Since its inception in 1939, ACA has operated from headquarters in four states: California, Washington and Ohio during the association’s formative years, and Minnesota in most recent history. The Edina headquarters was built in 1969 and a second story was added in 1976.
“It’s been a long, and unexpected, path for ACA to move to a new location, but we’re excited for continuing to serve members out of Eagan,” Neeb said. “This building is a great fit for the next chapter of ACA’s history.”
