The U.S. Department of Labor will soon offer applications for a 2020 award program that honors companies committed to hiring veterans.
The HIRE Vets Medallion Award is the only federal-level veterans’ employment award that recognizes a company or organization’s commitment to veteran hiring, retention, and professional development, according to the program’s website.
Recipients of the awards work to meet employment criteria, including veteran integration assistance and providing veteran-specific resources and leadership programming, among others.
The award program was developed based on requirements in the The Honoring Investments in Recruiting and Employing American Military Veterans Act of 2017 (HIRE Vets Act or the Act), signed by President Donald Trump on May 5, 2017.
There are separate awards available for large employers (500-plus employees), medium employers (51-499 employees), and small employers (50 or fewer employees).
The Department of Labor will begin accepting applications for the 2020 HIRE Vets Medallion Award on Jan. 31, 2020. The application deadline is April 30.
