Earlier this month, the Florida Collectors Association (FCA) held its annual conference at the Hyatt Regency Sarasota featuring a full slate of educational and networking opportunities for those who attended the event in person, while also allowing those who were unable to make the trip to participate virtually.
It was one of the first live industry events since March.
“[The] FCA was very happy to be able to put on one of, if not the first, live and virtual conferences after the pandemic shut things down and we did it in a safe and effective manner in collaboration with the staff of the Hyatt Regency Hotel,” said FCA President Matt Kiefer. “Melissa Nash and Lori Cameron did a great job putting this together with Tammy Schoenberg, director of member and association services at ACA International. None of this would have been possible without the support of our members and especially our sponsors.”
The event featured:
- A presentation from Robin Rock with the Federal Trade Commission’s Southeast Regional Office.
- Participation from the Florida Office of Financial Regulation.
- A presentation from Jeremy Mapes, owner and managing member of Mapes Consulting, on security and technology concerns in the age of COVID-19.
- An attorney panel on litigation trends in Florida, the Telephone Consumer Protection Act and new workers’ compensation litigation.
- A roundtable discussion on best practices.
- A presentation on leadership with David Kelley, CEO and president of The Preferred Group of Tampa.
Participants shared their positive feedback on the event:
“Decades of business experience have taught me to recognize true and committed professional organizations of which Florida Collectors Association is absolutely one of the best! As a vendor I’ve always helped sponsor and attend FCA exhibitions and have never been disappointed. The professionalism and quality of FCA’s programs are second to none. For over 25 years I’ve consistently relied on FCA for cutting-edge ARM industry information and continue to learn many superior and proven business practices. Additionally, I applaud current leadership for yet another fantastically effective and excellent conference!”
– Dan Donaldson, senior vice president, Communications Resource Management Corp., Ocoee, Florida.
“Great job, everyone at FCA, for an awesome conference. If you weren't here, you missed a great one! I can’t wait to go back and tell all our other industry portfolio associations (outside of the ARM industry) that they need to step it up and get out like FCA did!”
– Doug Easly, business development, NPC Inc., Claysburg, Pennsylvania.
“Great job by the FCA leadership on the live conference in Sarasota!”
– Harry Strausser III, vice president of business development, Applied Innovation Inc., Wenatchee, Washington.
The FCA installed its 2020/21 Board of Directors and officers during the conference. These members dedicate their time to serve in a leadership role and provide guidance and direction for the association. The 2020/21 FCA Board of Directors and officers include:
- President: Matt Kiefer
- President-Elect: Ernest “Skip” Kohlmyer
- Vice President: David Kelley
- Secretary/Treasurer and Immediate Past President: Melissa Nash
- Directors: Jack Brown III, Lori Cameron, Daniel Consuegra, Michael Thiel, Neal Jagoda, Pam Kirchner, Jeff Powell, Al Rookard, Kris Royal and Julie Thompson.
