A $33 million class-action settlement has been reached involving Cathode Ray Tubes (CRT), which are a main component in TVs and computer monitors. If you purchased a product with a CRT within a certain timeframe, may be eligible to submit a claim.
The lawsuit contends that Mitsubishi Electric conspired with other TV brands to fix the prices of CRTs, making customers pay more. Nine companies, including LG, Philips, Panasonic, have already settled similar lawsuits.
You’ve likely purchased computer monitors for your office, so it’s worth your time to look into this settlement. Our Alliance ACA partner, DCAP, can help ACA International members submit claims. They estimate that claim awards will range from $250 to $50,000+, depending on your details.
Are You a Class Member?
Yes, if you indirectly purchased a CRT Product, such as a CRT television or CRT computer monitor, for your own use and not for resale. “Indirectly purchased” means you purchased the product from someone other than the manufacturer, such as Best Buy.
A few details:
- The product can be from any manufacturer, except Sony.
- Purchases in Missouri, Montana and Rhode Island must have been made primarily for personal, family, or household purposes.
- The Settlement Class includes nine states that were not included in the settlement class for the prior settlements: Arkansas, Massachusetts, Missouri, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina and Utah.
In order to bring a claim, you must have purchased the CRT product(s) between March 1, 1995, and Nov. 25, 2007.
However, Hawaii, Nebraska and Nevada have slightly shorter class periods:
- Hawaii: Purchases of CRT Products must have been made between June 25, 2002, and Nov. 25, 2007.
- Nebraska: Purchases of CRT Products must have been made between July 20, 2002, and Nov. 25, 2007.
- Nevada: Purchases of CRT Products must have been made between Feb. 4, 1999, and Nov. 25, 2007.
The amount of money you will receive depends on the type and quantity of CRT products you purchased and the total number of claims made.
