The ACA International Education Foundation proudly recognized the 2022/23 recipients of the Loomer-Mortenson Scholarships in conjunction with ACA’s 2022 Convention & Expo held July 20-22 in Orlando. This year, the foundation received many applications and chose 19 distinguished students for the scholarships totaling $35,000.
Thanks to decades of support from ACA members and staff, the Loomer-Mortenson Scholarship Program has grown and expanded to help hundreds of students connected to the association and industry pursue higher education.
Students employed by a company affiliated with the accounts receivable management industry or a dependent of an employee are eligible to apply for a scholarship. Winners are selected based on their cumulative grade point average and a two- to three-page essay about the value of consumer credit to the nation’s economy. The program was created in the memory of ACA member Robert E. Loomer, a dedicated instructor, and ACA staff member Irvin “Dempsey” Mortenson.
The top three 2022/23 scholarships winners include:
Madison McLean, a student at University of Washington–Seattle, won the $10,000 scholarship. McLean’s parent is employed by Optio Solutions in Petaluma, Calif.
The $5,000 second-place scholarship was awarded to Elizabeth Hartmann, a student at Gustavus Adolphus College. Hartmann’s parent is employed by ACA International in Eagan, Minn.
The third-place $3,000 scholarship was awarded to Mazen Shaker, a student at University of Tennessee–Knoxville. Shaker’s parent is employed by Wakefield and Associates in Knoxville, Tenn.
New this year, the $2,500 Robbie Malone Scholarship was presented to Peyton Marie Kach, a student at Belmont University. Kach’s parent is employed by H & R Accounts in Moline, Ill. Members from Malone Frost Martin PLLC established the scholarship in memory of Robbie Malone, a former ACA member active in the Members Attorney Program and Judicial Committee since its inception.
