The Federal Trade Commission’s National Consumer Protection Week (NCPW) is March 5-11, 2023, which is a great time for ACA International members to showcase the ways they educate and assist consumers on financial decisions.
During NCPW, government agencies and consumer protection groups work together to share information about consumer rights and help people learn to spot, report, and avoid scams. The FTC has also provided a list of resources you can use to bring NCPW to your community now.
As a part of the accounts receivable management (ARM) industry, ACA members are directly involved in consumers’ financial decisions. Therefore, NCPW is a great time for members to learn more about how to support consumer education on topics such as identity theft, scams and incorrect information on credit reports all while talking to consumers about resolving debts.
ACA’s financial literacy website Know My Debt is another great resource your collectors can share with consumers.
Know My Debt delivers tips and clearly worded explanations aimed at helping consumers improve their financial literacy and resolve their debts. By including links to vetted financial literacy resources on your website, you can help consumers find the critical information they need to feel comfortable talking to your company representatives.
How to Add Know My Debt to Your Website
- On your website, create a link on your consumer resource page called Know My Debt: Explaining Consumer Rights and Navigating Debt Solutions.
- Use this address for the hyperlink: https://www.knowmydebt.com.
Get involved with NCPW to learn or improve how you and your business help consumers by promoting educational materials and training your staff to assist consumers in important financial topics. Find more ideas on how to get involved at the FTC’s NCPW webpage and blog.
