Hudson Cook, LLP, an ACA International member company based in Hanover, Maryland, announced last week that Jay Harris has joined the firm as a new partner in its Washington, D.C., office, expanding its Credit Reporting, Privacy, and Data Security and Debt Collections Practice groups.
Harris is an accomplished attorney and business leader bringing decades of experience in the financial services and rental housing industries, with a successful track record of advising property management firms, consumer reporting agencies, property technology service providers and trade associations in complying with consumer financial laws and regulations.
He has counseled clients on the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Fair Housing Act, Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, consumer data access, privacy and safeguards laws.
“We are thrilled to have Jay join our team at Hudson Cook,” said Rebecca Kuehn, partner and chair of the Credit Reporting, Privacy, and Data Security Practice group. “His deep understanding of the rental housing and consumer reporting industries and his broad range of legal and business skills will be invaluable in providing strategic counsel to our clients and further strengthening Hudson Cook’s position as a leading legal services provider in the tenant screening services industry.”
Prior to joining Hudson Cook, Harris held several key leadership roles in the rental housing and consumer reporting industries. He also ran his own law practice advising property management vendors, rental housing providers, tenant screening providers and trade associations on financial services and landlord-tenant law compliance.
Additionally, Harris served as general counsel for the tenant screening subsidiaries of two publicly traded companies, where he directed litigation defense and enterprise compliance programs. He also served as general counsel for a leading debt collection agency, where he led the adoption of the firm’s first enterprise compliance program.
“Hudson Cook has earned a reputation as a leading law firm in the financial services industry, and I am excited to bring my experience to the team,” Harris said. “Rental housing clients operate under a complex set of laws that the firm has advised in for decades. I look forward to working with the talented attorneys at the firm to provide clients with exceptional legal services.”
“I am very excited that Jay is joining our growing team at Hudson Cook,” said Chuck Dodge, managing partner of Hudson Cook. “Jay will be a key component in expanding the depth and breadth of our FCRA and data use and management practice area to more directly service tenant screening clients. The addition of Jay to our team underscores the firm’s commitment to providing clients with exceptional legal service and value. His experience as both in-house and outside counsel in the financial services industry, along with his business background, gives him the perspective and judgment necessary to give our clients efficient, effective and practical operational advice.”
