The Capital Pressroom is based in New York and features insights on state issues.
In the interview, Medical Debt from the Collector’s Point of View, Purcell and Lombardo discussed debt collection processes, especially as they relate to medical debt.
Purcell provided an overview of the debt collection process and the makeup of collection agencies in ACA’s membership and the industry today, highlighting that many are small businesses.
Proposed legislation in New York would implement a pilot program allowing nonprofit organizations to purchase medical debt, which Lombardo focused on in the interview as well.
From ACA’s perspective, the data-driven aspects of the proposed pilot program and health care provider involvement make it worth exploring, Purcell explained.
