Policy and regulation shape the very fabric of our industry, and the importance of direct advocacy cannot be overstated. That’s why ACA International’s Washington Insights Fly-In April 29-May 1 is more than just a conference—it’s a pivotal gathering that amplifies the collective voice of our members directly to the corridors of power in Capitol Hill.
A Call to Action: Your Presence Matters!
This year, we’re rallying around the clarion call: “Our Voice Has More Impact When You Join Us on Capitol Hill.” It’s a powerful reminder that the impact of our advocacy is significantly heightened when we stand together, united in purpose and voice. The Washington Insights Fly-In offers a unique opportunity for ACA members to engage face-to-face with regulators and key lawmakers, ensuring our industry’s concerns and perspectives are heard at the highest levels.
By joining us, you’re not just attending another industry event; you’re positioning yourself at the heart of action and decision-making that influences our ability to operate and provide employment.
ACA’s advocacy team will provide materials and talking points to help you make the most of these important meetings. We need you to participate, in your role as a constituent, to tell your personal story about your work in the industry, which has the power to educate policymakers and shape their perspective on issues that directly impact your business.
If you’re new and interested in attending, know this: advocacy starts with simple connections and finding common ground in legislative meetings. If you’ve attended before, we look forward to returning to Capitol Hill with you and encourage you to invite colleagues to increase the impact of our voices in Washington!
Critical Issues on the Table
The agenda for this year’s fly-in is both timely and critical, focusing on a range of issues that directly affect our industry. Highlights include:
- Navigating CFPB Regulations: We’ll dive into discussions about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s regulatory processes, including significant proposals like the removal of medical bills from credit reports and updates to the definitions of credit reporting agencies and data brokers under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
- Supreme Court Decisions: The expected decision from the U.S. Supreme Court on the CFPB’s funding structure could have profound implications for our industry. We’ll analyze potential outcomes and strategies for adaptation.
- Enforcement Clarity: With recent legislation sponsored by U.S. Rep. Andy Barr, seeking clarity on the bureau’s UDAAP enforcement actions and authority is more important than ever.
- Labor and Communication Regulations: From the Department of Labor’s pending final rule on overtime salary thresholds to the Federal Communications Commission’s ongoing call blocking and labeling rules following the TRACED Act, we’ll cover a spectrum of issues that demand our attention and action.
To help members learn about the latest issues to share with lawmakers, we’ve just released our updated Guide to Advocacy (PDF).
