Here are some important dates and deadlines to put on your calendar:
- Speak at ACA’s Visionaries Conference: Be part of an enriching dialogue on innovation, transformation, and challenges surrounding women in collections in conjunction with ACA’s 2023 Fall Forum by submitting a speaker proposal by Sept. 1. Learn more.
- Student Loan Forbearance Ending: The payment pause for federal student loans ends on Aug. 30. Interest will start to accrue on federal loans on Sept. 1, with payments starting in October, but delinquencies will not be reported until 2024. Learn more.
- Get Market Intelligence: You can sign up to participate in the Benchmarking Intelligence platform any time, but to receive the next quarterly comparison report, you will need to enter your Q2 2023 data into the platform between Sept. 1-30. Learn more.
- Credit Counseling Communications: The Minnesota Department of Commerce released a credit counseling resources document (PDF) that debt collection agencies must send with initial communications to Minnesota consumers, starting on Sept. 1, 2023. Learn more.
- Texas Data Privacy and Health Care Laws. Data breach notification requirements in Texas will take effect Sept. 1. A law requiring hospitals and health care providers to send patients a written, itemized invoice before their account is placed with a debt collector will take effect Sept. 1. Learn more.
- Attend a Unit Conference: The California Association of Collectors Inc. is hosting its annual conference Oct. 9-10, 2023, at the Westin Long Beach in Long Beach, California. Access the event page here to check out the agenda and to register for early-bird savings before Sept. 8.
- Share Your Thoughts: The Federal Communications Commission is seeking modification of a proposed rule that would extend consumers’ rights to revoke consent they previously gave to receive robocalls and robotexts. Public comments on the proposed rule are due Sept. 14. Learn more.
- Congress is Not in Session. The U.S. Senate returns to Washington, D.C., Sept. 6, and the U.S. House of Representatives will return Sept. 12. Both chambers will be in session for only 11 days in September, leaving a limited amount of time to approve government funding bills by the Sept. 30 deadline. Learn more.
- Attend the Northeast Debt Collection Expo: Multiple state units will reunite Sept. 17-19 in Atlantic City at the Hard Rock Casino on the Boardwalk.
