Here are some important dates and deadlines to put on your July calendar:
- Attend ACA’s Convention: Register today and join hundreds of your colleagues for ACA’s flagship event, the 2023 Convention & Expo, in Chicago July 26-28, featuring an agenda with inspiring speakers and innovators, plus many opportunities to connect with peers. Learn more.
- Review Licensing Change: Effective July 1, Maryland will cease licensing branch locations. Instead, licensees will be required to disclose branch locations by uploading them to Nationwide Multistate Licensing System. Learn more.
- Apply for CFPB Committee: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is seeking members for its Consumer Advisory Board. Completed applications received between July 3-July 16, 2023, will be considered for membership. Learn more.
- Comply with Phone Requirements: Several text message carriers will require companies using 10-digit telephone numbers to register to an approved campaign under their brand effective July 5, 2023. Learn more.
- Share Your Thoughts: ACA is working on a response to the White House’s RFI on the use of artificial intelligence products and seeks member feedback to inform its comments, which are due by July 7, 2023. Learn more.
- Connecticut Data Privacy Act: Taking effect July 1, 2023, key components of this law include no private right of action, and a 60-day-right-to-cure period ending on Dec. 31, 2024. It applies only to controllers that meet data volume thresholds (75,000 consumers or more) or data volume and revenue threshold (process data of 25,000 consumers and derive 25% of revenue from selling personal data). - Adjust Your Call Consent Policies: The FCC’s modified ruleon call exemptions and obtaining consumers’ consent will take effect on July 20, 2023, meaning compliance is required for certain call exemptions and call limits by that date. Learn more.
- Colorado Data Privacy Act: Colorado’s data privacy law includes personal data rights for consumers that take effect July 1, 2023. For example, it requires controllers to conduct a data protection assessment for each of their processing activities involving personal data that presents a heightened risk of harm to consumers. - Comply with New State Laws: Legislation on telephone communications and a separate bill to regulate credit repair companies will both take effect on July 23, 2023, in Washington state. Learn more.
