A look at how long it can take to detect a data breach—and how long it can take to recover from one.
The average time for businesses to discover a data breach? 197 days! The average time to contain one? 69 days! This delay in identifying, detecting, and containing a breach can result in significant financial losses for companies. Organizations that can contain a breach in less than 30 days can save over $1 million compared to those that fall closer to the average response time. What’s more, 75% of small and midsize businesses would survive only three to seven days from a ransomware attack, according to the SMBRS small and medium-sized businesses ransomware survey.
These statistics show the importance of implementing basic security measures promptly. Essential measures like having a written incident response plan, implementing multi-factor authentication, monitoring and retaining logs, and having a good backup and recovery solution are key in order to achieve a quicker detection and recovery time than the industry average. All of these (and more) are part of the FTC Safeguards Rule requirements, which TPx can help you with.
