Update: Louisiana Call Restrictions Not in Effect During State of Emergency

While Louisiana remains under a state of emergency due to Hurricane Laura through Sept. 20, 2020, ACA International confirmed with Louisiana Public Service Commission Do Not Call Program Manager Brenda Headlee that collection calls on existing debts may continue.

The exemption for calls in connection with an existing debt, contract or payment is not impacted by the current state of emergency, according to Headlee.

However, ACA encourages members to use their judgment and discretion when contacting consumers who may be impacted by the state of emergency at this time and consult with their counsel for guidance if needed.

Angela Czerlanis, ACA’s learning and development specialist, has a few tips on communicating with consumers impacted by a natural disaster to help shape your response plan.

The Louisiana Public Service Commission and Gov. John Bel Edwards have declared a state of emergency due to Hurricane Laura through Sept. 20, 2020, ACA reported this week.
