Scott and Jessica Hearn took their expertise from working in the accounts receivables management industry into the classroom this year.
The local school district near the headquarters for Universal Fidelity LP in Houston requested volunteers to teach financial literacy curriculum at Tompkins High School and the Hearns jumped at the chance to get involved.
The curriculum focused on topics such as salaries per city, cost of living, student loan debt, credit cards, credit scores, identity theft, budgets and more.
Jessica Hearn said she was surprised about the unawareness among students when it comes to financial literacy.
“Many students had not written a check previously, they were not aware of the expenses they would have each month and the income that they would need to meet the lifestyle they would expect,” she said. “The parents were very excited for this knowledge to be taught to their children.”
