Tom Pahl, Acting Director of the FTC’s Bureau of Consumer Protection, to Speak at ACA International’s Washington Insights Conference

Tom Pahl, acting director of the Bureau of Consumer Protection at the Federal Trade Commission, will join the lineup of legislative and regulatory speakers during ACA International’s 2018 Washington Insights Conference at The Madison in Washington, D.C. May 21-23.

ACA International President Rick Perr and CEO Mark Neeb announced Pahl as the first highlighted speaker slated for the conference to members and industry professionals at the Spring Forum & Expo this week.

Pahl, who was appointed to his current position in 2017, possesses substantial knowledge of the debt collection industry from his extensive experience working on financial regulatory issues.

Pahl first joined the FTC in 1990, and spent more than two decades serving in various positions, including for six years as assistant director in the Division of Financial Practices, which oversees debt collection issues. In his current position, Pahl oversees the FTC’s attorneys, investigators, and administrative personnel working to protect consumers from unfair and deceptive practices in the marketplace.

Pahl also spent time as managing counsel at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s Office of Regulations, where he was responsible for rulemaking, guidance and policy development activities. During this time, Pahl was closely involved in the CFPB’s debt collection rulemaking efforts.

In addition, Pahl amassed private sector experience as a partner at the law firm of Arnall Golden Gregory LLP in Washington, D.C., where his practice focused on consumer financial services and other consumer protection matters.

ACA looks forward to welcoming Pahl to this year’s Washington Insights Conference to hear firsthand about the FTC’s approach to debt collection and thoughts on where he thinks the commission may be headed in the future.

Pahl will also be a speaker during the ACA International MAP Committee’s upcoming members-only Legal Education teleseminar series. The first teleseminar, Looking Ahead in 2018 - Based Upon First Quarter 2018 Litigation and Regulatory Trends April 10, features Pahl, Leslie Bender, IFCCE, chief strategy officer and general counsel at BCA Financial Services Inc. and Mark Colombell, director at Thomas McMullen PC.

Members in attendance at the Washington Insights Conference will also have the opportunity to connect with thought leaders and decision makers, and find strength in numbers by leveraging the knowledge of peers nationwide and hear updates about the CFPB, Federal Communications Commission, Telephone Consumer Protection Act and 2018 elections.

Register now to be a part of history. The Washington Insights Conference is an exclusive opportunity for members of ACA to meet with government officials in person and have critical dialogue about the state of the industry and how to work together.

Attending this meeting will ensure that you are informed about what is coming for our industry in 2018 and beyond. Your input will enable your elected representatives to understand what changes they can make to fix the problems with our current debt collection laws.
