Staff members of Optio Solutions in Petaluma, California, and its affiliate, Crosscheck, reached a milestone in June when 10 employees participated in the Redwood Empire Foodbank’s weekday Warehouse Support program, marking the 14th consecutive month in which employees volunteered with the charity organization. During the June visit, Optio and Crosscheck staff members helped package 4,722 pounds of fresh apples and oranges, representing 5,666 meals for seniors in need, food bank representative Cassidy Jourdan said.
During the 14-month period of May 2018 through June 2019, company volunteers were responsible for packing 2,274 grocery boxes, 7,161 pounds of apples, 6,600 pounds of carrots, 7,161 pounds of oranges, and 2,400 pounds of plums. Their efforts represent over 800 man-hours and approximately 76,549 meals for people in need. An average of 16 volunteers from the companies volunteer at the food bank each month.
CrossCheck Senior Vice President Charles Dortch III launched the company-wide effort in May 2018. Dortch and Optio Solutions’ CEO Chris Schumacher participate as volunteers.
“It’s great to see management and employees coming together to support our community,” Schumacher said, who often conducts quality control on the content of grocery boxes before they are sealed and palletized. “It’s a fun time outside of the office doing something that makes a difference to others in need.”
