Days after Mick Mulvaney handed-off the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection to its new director Kathy Kraninger, President Donald Trump announced that Mulvaney will serve as acting White House chief of staff.
Mulvaney, director of the vitally important Office of Management and Budget, is stepping into the White House role following the resignation of John Kelly.
According to Fox News, Trump shared the news with the world via Twitter, writing:
“I am pleased to announce that Mick Mulvaney, Director of the Office of Management & Budget, will be named Acting White House Chief of Staff, replacing General John Kelly, who has served our Country with distinction,” Trump tweeted. “Mick has done an outstanding job while in the Administration. I look forward to working with him in this new capacity as we continue to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
The Washington Post reported that while Mulvaney will not resign from the OMB, he is expected to spend all of his time serving as acting chief of staff. Deputy budget director Russell Vought will fill Mulvaney’s role as OMB director.
