ACA’s Women in Collections Resource Council (WICRC) is presenting a new Hot Topic webinar, “An Advocacy Primer for Current and Future Leaders in Collections,” at 2 p.m. CST, Monday, March 1.
Leah Dempsey, ACA’s vice president and senior counsel of federal advocacy, and Fran Fisher, business development manager at Payscout and chair of the WICRC, will lead an introductory-level presentation to familiarize attendees with the various ways to get involved in advocacy efforts in support of the collection industry, as well as other business and personal issues that are important to them.
“Many people, women especially, have no idea how to get started in ‘advocacy,’ or are intimidated by the thought of reaching out to their elected leaders,” Fisher said. “I want them to know that it can be rewarding—and fun too—especially when you realize that elected leaders really are interested in hearing from you. This will be a how-to discussion about getting started with small steps and how those can lead to making a larger impact.”
The material in this webinar will focus on the process of initiating and maintaining relationships with elected and regulatory officials and candidates at the local, state and federal levels.
Fisher and Dempsey will draw on their experiences as well as those of other members, provide resources and answer questions about advocacy from the audience.
“Besides talking about the process, we'll hear from several members about how they got started in advocacy,” Fisher said. “I hope any member who is even a little curious about the process will sign up.”
The goal of this session is to spark interest in advocacy by demonstrating the benefits that attendees can gain through participation and to help them feel more comfortable when they consider participating in their state unit advocacy efforts or attending ACA events like the Washington Insights Virtual Fly-In.
