In California, patient debt collections are on hold as hospitals and their partner debt collection agencies work to comply with these laws, which have amended sections of the Health and Safety Code, as well as the Rosenthal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and impose new restrictions on hospitals and debt collectors alike.
Hospitals can’t assign or sell bad debt to collections without first complying, and debt collection agencies are prohibited from collecting hospital debt until their hospital clients comply. The laws require updates to hospital charity care policy, final notice requirements and debt collection assignment policy.
Panel speakers for the session will address these topics and more. They include Terri Meier, system director of patient revenue cycle at UC San Diego Health; Sammy Chang, associate at Athene Law LLP; Felicia Y. Sze, founding and managing partner at Athene Law LLP; Rick Lash, interim manager of patient financial services at Methodist Hospital of Southern California; Tom Griffin, attorney at Hefner Law; and Scott Purcell; CEO of ACA International.
Don’t miss this important session to get the information on navigating these new laws and keep patient revenue flowing.
