Grimley Financial Corporation and the Grimley family decided to donate a signed baseball jersey to 11-year-old Will Smith and give money to the Jackie Robinson Foundation after being moved by the boy's story in the New York Daily News.

Smith lives in Queens, N.Y. and, as a fan of the Mets, purchased a Daniel Murphy baseball bat online using his birthday money, according to Kristen Grimley. However, the company selling the bat cancelled Smith's order when Murphy broke a record for homeruns in consecutive playoff games and offered his family a discount and signed bat from Anaheim Angels centerfielder Mike Trout.

Eventually, according to Grimley, the company sent Smith the Daniel Murphy bat free of charge for the inconvenience. Smith decided to pay it forward and donated the money he was going to spend on the bat to the Jackie Robinson Foundation, which provides comprehensive scholarships and support services to minority students enrolled at institutions of higher education.

“The Grimley family was extremely moved by Will's determination to stand up for himself along with his donation to the Jackie Robinson Foundation,” Kristen Grimley said.

Kristen Grimley said she showed the article to her father Charles Grimley, president and CEO of Grimley Financial in Haddonfield, N.J., and they all decided to gift the jersey to Smith as well as a $500 donation to the Jackie Robinson Foundation.

“It is the belief at Grimley Financial Corporation that a young boy like Will Smith, who is setting an example for children everywhere, should be acknowledged for his actions,” Kristen Grimley said.
