Nathan Simington, the newest commissioner on the Federal Communications Commission, will join ACA International for the Washington Insights Virtual Fly-In April 22 as the keynote speaker.
“During this critical time for the industry where policymaking at the federal level is directly impacting your ability to operate, ACA invites members to attend and hear directly from the accounts receivable management industry’s regulators, members of Congress and ACA’s advocacy leadership,” said Leah Dempsey, ACA’s vice president and senior counsel of federal advocacy. “Commissioner Simington is new to the FCC, so it will be important to educate him about the industry and hear his valuable insights.”
Simington is serving a five-year term on the FCC after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate in December.
Simington brings both private- and public-sector experience to the commission. Previously, he served as senior advisor at the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. In this role, he worked on many aspects of telecommunications policy, including spectrum allocation and planning, broadband access, and the U.S. government’s role in the internet. Before joining the commission, he was senior counsel to Brightstar Corp., an international mobile device services company.
Registration for the Washington Insights Virtual Fly-In is opening soon, and the event is also an opportunity for members to learn about ACA’s advocacy mission this year.
As businesses, community lenders, hospitals and other providers throughout the country continue to face unprecedented challenges as a result of COVID-19, the work of ACA members is more important than ever. A new Congress and new administration are in Washington, D.C., and it is critical that ACA continues to have a seat at the table working with our members to be a voice on key issues.
This event builds on our advocacy on issues such as the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s debt collection rule, COVID-19 response bills and packages, Telephone Consumer Protection Act reform, Operation Choke Point, and call blocking and labeling.
At this Virtual Fly-In, ACA will lead members through steps they can take to work with elected officials, introduce them to new members of Congress and leaders at federal agencies, and discuss what is happening on the ground in Washington, D.C. Join us for a daylong event focused on helping your businesses succeed through federal advocacy.
CEO Mark Neeb will kick off this highly anticipated event, followed by a presentation from members on the importance of advocacy at the federal level.
Members and ACA staff will also provide insights on the intersection between changes at the state and federal level, and the Women in Collections Resource Council will moderate a discussion with women leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The Washington Insights Virtual Fly-In will conclude with a discussion on working with new leadership at federal agencies and a virtual happy hour with ACA’s Political Action Committee.
