Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Kathy Kraninger will provide introductory remarks at the Consumer Access to Financial Records symposium Feb. 26 featuring discussions on market developments, risks and safeguarding consumer data.
This upcoming symposium is the fourth in a series hosted by the bureau in the last year that have included discussions on the Dodd-Frank Act’s prohibition on abusive acts or practices, behavioral law and economics, and Section 1071 of the Dodd-Frank Act on small-business lending.
On Feb. 26, panelists will also discuss Section 1033 of the Dodd-Frank Act, which addresses consumers’ rights to access information about their financial accounts, according to a CFPB news release.
The first panel, moderated by Paul Watkins, assistant director in the bureau’s Office of Innovation, will assess the current landscape of holders of consumer data and the benefits and risks of consumer-authorized data access, according to the CFPB news release.
The second panel will include a discussion on market developments in consumer-authorized data access. The panel will be moderated by Will Wade-Gery, senior advisor in the Bureau’s Office of Innovation.
The third panel will focus on the future state of the market, as well as considerations for policymakers on how to ensure consumer data is safeguarded while ensuring that consumers have continual access to their data. The panel will be moderated by Thomas Devlin, managing counsel in the bureau’s Research, Markets and Regulation Division.
The CFPB’s symposium series is aimed at stimulating a proactive and transparent dialogue to assist the bureau in its policy development process, including possible future rulemakings, according to the CFPB news release.
More information and the event agenda are available on the CFPB’s website. The event will be aired on the CFPB’s website beginning at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Standard Time Feb. 26.
