The risk of data security breaches is ongoing, as shown by the breaches reported in the last week by American Medical Collection Agency impacting their clients Quest Diagnostics and LabCorp.
ACA International has resources to help keep up with regulations and data security practices in the comprehensive CORE Curriculum seminar: Data Security & Privacy I June 11-12 led by Certified Instructors Leslie Bender, IFCCE, CCCO, chief strategy officer and general counsel at BCA Financial Services Inc. in Miami, and Michael O’Meara, Esq., president of The O’Meara Law Office in Everett, Washington.
With growing attention and changes to state and federal data breach laws, it’s more important now than ever to stay on top of regulations that apply to your business and have solid data security procedures in place.
According to the Experian Data Breach Industry Forecast 2019, significant data breaches impacting millions of consumers increased from about 200 per year to more than 1,300 between 2005 and 2017.
In this seminar, you will learn to implement effective policies and procedures, notify consumers in the event of a data security breach and explore essential safeguards and strategies to develop a Data Security Compliance Program.
ACA International also has materials available for members in the ACA SearchPoint® library under the Identity Theft tab as well as ongoing curriculum to help you stay on top of data breach regulations that apply to your business.
The latest data breaches also increased focus on the ongoing discussions of data security and legislation on Capitol Hill. The Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs will conduct a hearing on Data Brokers and the Impact on Financial Data Privacy, Credit, Insurance, Employment and Housing on Tuesday, June 11. Several senators also asked for responses and remediation plans from the companies impacted by the latest breach, according to a report from Yahoo Finance.
