The National Association of Attorneys General (NAAG) is seeking continued efforts to stop illegal robocalls by bad actors.
In May, the NAAG sent a letter calling on USTelecom and its Industry Traceback Group (ITG) to continue its collaboration with state attorneys general by bolstering technological capabilities to improve enforcement against illegal robocallers.
“The bipartisan coalition of 52 state and territory attorneys general is urging the association to further develop robocall traceback and other tools suited to law enforcement needs,” according to a news release from the NAAG.
The coalition’s letter follows a January 2020 meeting in Washington, D.C., with representatives from state attorney general offices, federal agencies, and the telecom industry, according to the news release.
Meanwhile, ACA International continues to work with Congress to help it draw clear distinctions between legitimate callers and scammers, and to provide important protections for legal calls, especially since the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act was signed into law last year and is being implemented.
The law will prompt several rulemakings by the Federal Communications Commission and reports from the FCC to Congress in 2020.
There is still time to learn more about ACA’s advocacy in the Washington Insights Livestream June 3, featuring input from Washington insiders, regulators and members of Congress.
