Following the recess delay of the U.S. Senate Banking Committee’s vote on her nomination, Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection director nominee Kathy Kraninger continues to receive questions on her approach should she run the agency.
Senate Democrats on the banking committee are at the center of those questions, according to media reports, some Kraninger has answered, some she has not.
The Credit Union Times reports Kraninger continues to express agreement with “the pro-business regulatory approach” of BCFP Acting Director Mick Mulvaney.
“Based on the information that is available to me at this time, I cannot identify any actions that Acting Director Mulvaney has taken with which I disagree,” she said.
She also said “she will not allow the bureau to regulate issues through enforcement actions” and is committed to “data-driven” decision-making. On other issues, such as new cases or enforcement actions from the bureau, Kraninger did not provide specifics on her views on BCFP policies, saying, that to do so would be prejudging an issue without all the necessary information,” The Credit Union Times reports.
The U.S. Senate is currently on a short August recess after completing work on a defense spending bill last week, delaying the Senate Banking Committee’s vote on Kraninger until the week of Aug. 13, ACA International previously reported.
Meanwhile, according to The Hill, additional Democrats in the Senate are reportedly joining U.S. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., in opposing Kraninger’s nomination leading up to the vote expected next week.
