Members of the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate will be in their home districts until the elections Nov. 6 connecting with constituents individually and at various other events such as town hall meetings.
With a government elected by its citizens that impacts every aspect of our lives from schools to health care to homeland security and debt collection, voting is an important right in our society. By voting, you are making your voice heard and registering your opinion on how you think the government should operate.
Accounts receivable management industry professionals are encouraged to reach out to their representatives and congressional candidates to discuss legislative priorities and educate them in advance of the Tuesday, Nov. 6, midterm elections and throughout the year.
ACA International has many resources available on its Advocacy Action Center and you may visit congress.gov to plan an agency tour and find your local representative. Contact your policymakers’ district office to improve your chance of scheduling an agency tour. And, be sure to visit your representative’s official website for background information and an updated list of their critical issues.
The midterm elections are extremely important to the future of the accounts receivable management industry, so you are encouraged to vote! If you haven't registered or if you will not be available to vote in person Nov. 6, please consult with your local voter registration office for instructions on deadlines and the absentee process. Remember, every vote counts! For more information, click here: https://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote
On Tuesday, Ted Smith, ACA International’s vice president of operations, continued the association’s advocacy efforts by attending an event hosted by Minnesota State Sen. Karin Housley, the Republican candidate competing in the special election for former U.S. Sen. Al Franken’s seat. Franken resigned in January and was replaced by Democrat Tina Smith, who is running against Housley to fulfill the remaining two years of Franken’s term.
The meet-and-greet Minneapolis breakfast drew about 50 attendees including U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., and a former presidential candidate. Rubio briefly addressed the crowd after Housley discussed relevant issues.
For additional information and resources for meetings with your member of Congress, ACA International’s Vice President for Congressional and Political Affairs Rae Ann Bevington may be reached at [email protected] or (202) 810-8899.
