Kenneth Robert Akre passed away in October 2018 at the age of 66. He was the owner of Specialized Collection Systems Inc. in Houston, Texas until 2017 when his daughter Megan Hebert, vice president of the company, purchased the business. Akre remained extremely involved in the company and its daily operations.
Akre was featured in The Houston Chronicle during Hurricane Harvey in 2017 as he was awaiting a heart transplant. The storm damaged the home of his youngest daughter, Erin. Flood waters caused Megan Hebert, her husband and three children to flee their home in Houston and his oldest daughter, Jennifer, also had significant damage at her home. Akre learned, in the midst of the storm and his family’s struggles, there was a heart donor available in September 2017.
“Since his heart transplant on September 5, 2017, he was living life to the fullest and feeling better than ever. He would want you to know that he was taking care of his new heart and he had plans to be here for a very long time,” according to Akre’s obituary.
Akre is survived by his daughters, Erin, Megan and Jennifer and several grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his wife, Diane.
