ACA International’s team in Minneapolis and Washington, D.C., recently completed a community fundraiser to support residents in need of meals for their families.
Looting and damage to Minneapolis and St. Paul neighborhoods earlier this summer caused “food deserts” to occur, when food security is already a problem in Minnesota and the U.S.
Some of Minneapolis’ most vulnerable citizens—elderly people and children—do not have access to nutritious food due to these events.
ACA’s team wanted to help those affected in a meaningful way by collecting donations for two food shelves in the Uptown area of Minneapolis.
“With the rest of Minnesota and the world, the ACA International team witnessed the impact of the recent unrest that has taken place in our backyard over the past several months and we saw that our Minnesota neighbors were hurting,” said Director of Member and Association Services Tammy Schoenberg.
ACA, with donations from staff and a match from management, contributed $1,060 to the Joyce Uptown Food Shelf and $1,710 to the Groveland Food Shelf.
Although ACA’s team members live in different parts of the Twin Cities metro—some closer to the heart of Minneapolis and some in outer-ring suburbs, plus staff in the Washington, D.C. area—we came together to help support Minnesotans affected by food insecurity
