ACA International leaders and industry experts are featured in the latest episode of ACA Cast to discuss legislation on Capitol Hill aimed at mitigating robocall scams.
Leah Dempsey, ACA’s vice president and senior counsel of federal advocacy; Rick Perr, ACA International board member and partner with Fineman, Krekstein and Harris PC; and JoAnn Needleman, member and leader of the Consumer Financial Services Regulatory and Compliance Practice Group at Clark Hill PLC, reviewed legislation, specifically the Telephone Robocall Abuse Criminal Enforcement and Deterrence (TRACED) Act, S. 3655, introduced by U.S. Sens. John Thune, R-S.D., and Ed Markey, D-Mass.
Perr and Needleman reviewed potential unintended consequences of the legislation also discussed with members of Congress. Perr and Kevin Baich, board member and vice president at Day Knight and Associates, were on Capitol Hill in November and had the opportunity to share concerns about the legislation with Thune and U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt’s, R-Mo., staff. ACA International also met with Thune and Blunt and their office staff.
In addition to the TRACED Act legislation, Needleman, Perr and Dempsey discussed the overall bipartisan focus on mitigating illegal robocalls, what to expect on Telephone Consumer Protection Act reform in the 116th Congress, regulations and more.
“Regulatory and judicial efforts will continue to bear fruit for the industry,” Perr said.
