The statistics are staggering. The financial losses attributed to identify theft also seem to increase each year despite education campaigns warning consumers of dangers related to sharing personal information, failing to change a password or accidentally clicking on a phishing scam.
Credit reporting giant Experian noted that nearly 158 million Social Security numbers were exposed in 2017, while upward of 14.2 million credit card numbers were compromised. If that’s not enough, in 2018 there were 1,579 data breaches exposing nearly 179 million records.
