Implement the Collector's Pledge with your collection staff
The Collector's Pledge is a Foundation initiative to improve the public image of the credit and collection industry through professionalism and respect for consumers.
The Pledge is similar to a company code of conduct espoused by many industry employers, and while not intended to replace an existing code, it does reflect the values and practices of ACA's membership.
The ACA Board of Directors updated the association's Code of Ethics, which all member companies agree to uphold as a condition of membership. The new ACA Code of Ethics represents rules for the company level, and instructs the company to implement its own code of conduct at the employee level to promote a culture of fairness and respect. The Collector's Pledge is a simple yet powerful example of a company code of conduct that works toward this goal.
The ACA Foundation plans an online registration tool allowing companies to indicate their acceptance of the Pledge and list the number of collectors that have made a personal commitment to it. The Foundation will capture the number of pledges for use in ACA and Foundation public relations efforts with consumer groups, business leaders and policy makers.
Collectors Challenge Month is an ideal time to introduce the Pledge to your employees. To help the Foundation track the impact of the Collector's Pledge, please e-mail foundation@acainternational.org the name of your company as well as how many people have signed the pledge. (It is not necessary to include actual names.)
