ACA International represented the credit and collection industry on a debt collection panel during the ninth annual NMLS Conference and Training held Feb. 13-16, in Austin, Texas.
The panel was a unique opportunity for the industry and its regulators to participate in a dialogue on issues important to both groups. The panel’s discussion focused on legislative and regulatory trends facing the industry at the state and federal levels. ACA’s Vice President of State Government and Unit Affairs Andy Madden and David Reid, director of Government Affairs and Policy for the Receivables Management Association, were a part of the panel with Elizabeth Benotti, chief director, debt collector, Consumer Finance Companies and Money Services Business Licensing for the Massachusetts Division of Banks. Benotti also serves as the president of the North American Collection Agency Regulatory Association (NACARA).
The NMLS Conference is attended by state and federal regulators and financial services licensees. The NMLS currently manages debt collection license in seven states (Connecticut, Idaho, Indiana, Massachusetts, North Dakota, Rhode Island and Arizona.)
In addition to debt collection trends, the conference covered issues such as NMLS modernization, money services businesses, NMLS user training, state examinations and compliance in lending, among others.
