Several states have statutes or regulations which are more restrictive than the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and may further restrict collection agencies’ ability to contact a consumer’s spouse regarding a debt. This document provides statutory instruction for the states that have adopted laws or regulations covering these circumstances.
