To be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be one of the following:
- A current employee of a company affiliated with the collection industry; or be
- A dependent child of such.
Scholarship recipients must enroll for a minimum of 12 credit hours at an accredited college, university, vocational-technical college or community college within 12 months following receipt of the award.
The program is open to applicants throughout the United States.
This year, a total of $18,000 will be awarded:
$5,000 to one first-place recipient; $3,000 to one second-place recipient; and 10 third-place awards of $1,000 each.

Anyone meeting the eligibility criteria is encouraged to apply. Winners will be selected based on their cumulative grade point average and a 2- to 3-page essay on the topic on the value of consumer credit to our nation’s economy.
The scholarship, which honors the memory of ACA member Robert E. Loomer and ACA staff member Irvin "Dempsey" Mortenson, replaces the original program that began in 1985 and was open only to ACA employees and their dependents.
